Parental alienation is an emotional form of child abuse characterized by a parent vilifying or belittling the child’s other parent to him or her. This is a serious and prevalent in a number of cases pertaining to family law. The intent of this behavior is obviously to destroy the present and any future relationship of the child with the parent that is the target of the alienation. Unfortunately, this can be a very successful practice of brainwashing with children that are vulnerable emotionally and have minds are young and impressionable. The child can buy into the lies of the alienating parent because he or she feels a desire to protect the alienating parent, he she doesn’t want to be the victim of rejection or anger, and he/she wants to keep a relationship with the parent doing the alienating.
